You know what really made me fall in love with Katniss? It was that, for once, this is a woman in a movie who is focused on something other than who her boyfriend is. She’s forced into an arena to fight for survivial – she’s thrown into a way and becomes a political figure without even realizing it – and that is far more interesting than her romantic life. Look, I loved working with both Josh and Liam, but as far as Katniss is concerned, I think that with all she has going on, the very bottom of her priorities list is the question of who her next boyfriend is going to be.

“If I were to create a ratings system, I wouldn’t even put murder right at the top of the chief offenses. I would put rape right at the top of the chief offenses, and the assault against women. Because it’s so insanely overused and insulting how much it’s overused in movies as a plot device: a woman in peril. That, to me, is offensive. Yet that shit skates.”

i barely remember this contest even existing, let alone doing whatever was required to be entered/win (and almost win one other week?). and i’ll be in mexico and hadn’t been planning to even have my phone turned on!?
but this is obviously the most amazing birthday present and an awesome affirmation of how generous a fannish economy should and can be - even one that is run as part of a marketing initiative through a network. southland is a show i would write and talk and spazz about equally as much no matter what the “reward” - it’s just that fucking good.
and at any point really in the last 4 seasons i could have gotten off my ass and pitched or gotten assigned an interview with the cast or creators - especially when i was working in the same building where they shoot and kept running into them - but i was also perfectly content just to sit back and watch this tremendous show play out.

SPW blogging this just made me remember when Justin & I sat on a couch at HOB and realized we’d been to all the same lesbian concerts in Chicago in 1996.
